Camp Chef

UX Research

Overview

Camp Chef partnered with OST to evaluate how our services could support their business and enhance their user experience. Working alongside another researcher in a cross-functional team, I helped initiate foundational UX research efforts to uncover opportunities for improvement. While the research phase was still underway during my time on the project, our early work established a strong direction for continued discovery and collaboration.

Testimonial

“I had the pleasure of working with Allison as an intern on a couple of projects, and I was very impressed with her dedication, creativity, and work ethic. She consistently demonstrated a strong passion for design and a commitment to producing high-quality work.

During her time with us, Allison quickly adapted to our work, contributing valuable ideas and executing them with precision. Her positive attitude and willingness to collaborate made her a pleasure to work with, and she easily integrated into our design team. Wish I had more time with her!”

01 Stakeholder Interviews

Stakeholder Interviews:

  • During these discussions, we had the chance to establish rapport with key stakeholders, outline their engagement expectations, and enhance our understanding of the product.

    • Taylor - Engineer

    • Cade and Kyle - Marketing

    • Brian - UX Designer/Graphic Designer

02 Competitive Analysis

Social Media Scrub:

  • Conducted an extensive review of their various social media channels during the interim before our meeting with the marketing team. This provided us with a foundational framework to understand user perceptions of both the app and the company.

Competitive Analysis:

  • We pinpointed competitors by examining sources such as the Buyer's Guide and engaging in discussions with Camp Chef's marketing team.

Furthermore, we mapped out user journeys within competitors' applications to assess available features and their efficacy. This process also allowed us to gauge user preferences and pain points associated with these products.

03 Evaluation

Style Guide:

  • Conducted thorough accessibility testing on the company's color palette and style guide.

Heuristic Evaluation:

  • Systematically examined and meticulously annotated prospective frames for the app's redesign, developed by Brian, UX designer at Camp Chef.

User Flows:

  • Captured screenshots of the existing app and controller screens to delineate user flows and pinpoint any areas of user friction.

04 User Research

Survey:

  • Teamed up with Camp Chef's marketing division to enhance a survey they were already preparing for distribution.

  • Contributed insights and ultimately shaped a survey that aligned with our requirements.

Interviews:

  • Following the survey's deployment, the gathered data will serve as a foundation for sourcing participants for more extensive user testing and diary studies.
